Friday Filosophy #2016-11

From expertise last week I want to go to perseverance this week in our Friday Filosophy #2016-11. I truly believe that if everything we faced were easy, then it would already be done. By extension, some of us will go to places in our lives that are not easy. There we become trailblazers, pioneers. There we will realize failures and setbacks. It is perseverance that sets you apart.

Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.

Pele

Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th.

Julie Andrews

Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves.  We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained.

Marie Curie

Never stop fighting until you arrive at your destined place – that is, the unique you. Have an aim in life, continuously acquire knowledge, work hard, and have perseverance to realize the great life.

P.J. Abdul Kalam

Through hard work, perseverance and a faith in God, you can live your dreams.

Ben Carson

Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.

John Quincy Adams

Great works are performed not by strength but by perseverance.

Samuel Johnson

Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did.

Newt Gingrich

Friday Filosophy #2016-2

I believe that one of the most important personal attributes to have to enjoy your life and grow as a person is curiosity. If you are curious you will be asking a lot of questions of yourself and of others. Isn’t why a wonderful question to pose on anything, at any time, for any reason? This is true as long as the answer given to you is not “because.”

So, for Friday Filosophy #2016-2, here are some interesting quotes from some interesting people on curiosity.

We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

Walt Disney

Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight, or any experience that reveals the human spirit.

e.e. cummings

Curiosity will conquer fear even more than bravery will.

James Stephens

It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education.

Albert Einstein

Curiosity is natural to the soul of man and interesting objects have a powerful influence on our affections.

Daniel Boone

Leisure and curiosity might soon make great advances in useful knowledge, were they not diverted by minute emulation and laborious trifles.

Samuel Johnson

Curiosity killed the cat, but for a while I was a suspect.

Stephen Wright

Friday Filosophy #2015-29

With our webinar series beginning next week for the fall session, Friday Filosophy #2015-29 is about something we strive for, always: excellence.

Satisfaction in life is knowing that you got the best out of your attributes. Don’t settle for less than you are capable of in your life. There is much more satisfaction in overcoming challenges and problems than sailing through life without being challenged. Many famous people have said something like this in different ways with the same meaning. Never lie to your reflection in the mirror even though it is the easiest person in the world to lie to. You will never achieve what you were meant to achieve.

Today I would like to explore some differing views of excellence.

Every job is a self-portrait of the person who does it. Autograph your work with excellence.

Author Unknown

The secret of joy in work is contained in one word – excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it.

Pearl S. Buck

Excellence is never an accident: it is the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, skillful execution and the vision to see obstacles as opportunities.

Anonymous

Mediocre men work at their best; men seeking excellence strive to do better.

Edwin Louis Cole

Excellence is not a skill. It is an attitude.

Ralph Marston

Excellence is doing ordinary things extraordinarily well.

John W Gardner

If you want to achieve excellence, you can get there today. As of this second, quit doing less-than-excellent work.

Thomas J. Watson

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.

Aristotle

ABILITY is what you are capable of doing.

MOTIVATION determines what you do.

ATTTITUDE determines how well you do it.

Lou Holtz

Perfection is not attainable. But if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence.

Vince Lombardi

No work is insignificant. All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.

Martin Luther King

Once you have experienced excellence you will never again be content with mediocrity.

Thomas S. Watson

The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.

Vince Lombardi

If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters. Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude.

Colin Powell

Excellence in any department can be attained only by the labor of a lifetime; it is not to be purchased at a lesser price.

Samuel Johnson

Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren’t used to an environment where excellence is expected.

Steve Jobs

Life’s like a play: it’s not the length but the excellence of the acting that matters.

Seneca

How you view your work or your life is your own. How others view you is not.

Friday Filosophy #2014-49

Imagination is more important than knowledge.

Albert Einstein

Curiosity is, in great and generous minds, the first passion and the last.
Samuel Johnson

The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.
William Arthur Ward
